Island Health & Wellness Foundation Receives Betterment Fund Grant for Children’s Oral Health Program
Island Health & Wellness Foundation (IH&WF) is the recipient of a $10,000 grant from The Betterment Fund. The funding will be used to provide oral health education and screenings at local schools and day care centers over the next three years.
Stonington, ME – Island Health & Wellness Foundation (IH&WF) is pleased to partner with the State of Maine and Points North Institute to bring the documentary Recovery Boys to the Stonington Opera House on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. This free event is part of a statewide documentary effort to raise awareness about the opioid crisis. Mary Herman will be in attendance. Ms. Herman is Maine’s former First Lady, who currently oversees Special Projects in the Office of Maine Department of Education and works closely with Gordon Smith, Governor Mills’ Director of Opiate Response, staffing the statewide Prevention Task Force.
Island Health & Wellness Foundation, together with the Stonington Public Library and Chase Memorial Library in Deer Isle, invite the public to attend an evening of casual conversation on Friday, August 9th at 5:00 p.m. at The Reach Performing Arts Center in Deer Isle. The event will feature three local experts in the fields of literature and medicine and serve as a culmination of the Island wide read of Katherine Page’s new book “The Body in the Wake.”
Island Health & Wellness Foundation is hosting a special public meeting on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at 6:30 pm. Gordon Smith, Governor Janet Mills’ new Director of Opiate Response, will be at The Reach Performing Arts Center to share the latest details on how the State is addressing substance use and take questions and answers from the audience. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend.
For the first time since it was established in 1966, the Island Health and Wellness Foundation, formerly the Island Medical Center Board of Trustees, has an executive director. The Board of Trustees named Anne West as the foundation’s executive director during a meeting on February 20.
“Community” was a constant theme among speakers during a sunny 50th anniversary celebration of the Island Medical Center on Sunday, August 14.
