“Just For The Health Of It” Community Discussions with Tara Young
Episode 19: Talking with Tara Young, Drug Free Communities Program Coordinator of Healthy Acadia
May 14, 2021

This week’s podcast centers on a conversation that I had recently with Tara Young. Tara is the Drug Free Communities Program Coordinator at Healthy Acadia. Her work involves many components-including mental health advocacy, educating youth and parents about the dangers of nicotine and substance use, and suicide prevention.
Tara offers a number of education-specific programs for youth and provides support for parents. In this episode we discuss:
1. Programs and services that we can all take advantage of (for free!) that will make us better allies to marginalized groups.
2. What are some practical steps parents can take to help their children avoid substance misuse?
3. How has the pandemic impacted Tara’s work?
4. Why is resilience training important?
5. What is Hope Day?
